FBI chief to meet Chidambaram today
Robert Mueller, the chief of largest central investigating agency of US ‘Federal Bureau of Investigation’ (FBI) will meet Home Minister P Chidambaram, National Security Advisor M K Narayanan and top functionaries of the government this afternoon.
The FBI chief is also expected to meet Intelligence Bureau Chief Rajiv Mathur, but there is not any schedule of meeting with Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Chief Ashwani Kumar, sources reported.
His meeting is likely to begin from afternoon over the issues of security concerns including counter terrorism measures with US assistance.
The arrival of FBI chief in India is not surprising as FBI and its Indian counterparts came close during the investigating process of last year’s Mumbai terror attacks, which nudged Pakistan to accept that a part of the conspiracy was hatched on its soil.
During the investigation, FBI officials had ‘technically’ helped Indian investigators in analyzing Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and Global Positioning System of satellite phones used by terrorists that made the investigation easy for the Indian investigating agency.
On the other hand, according to sources, India allowed FBI to join the probe with the Indian investigating agency in country's worst ever terrorist attack including interrogating the accused in the custody.
