CRPF and NSG get new chiefs as Gill, Aulakh take charge

New Delhi, Sat, 28 Feb 2009 ANI

New Delhi, Feb 28 (ANI): The Central Reserve Police Force and National Security Guard got their new chiefs on Saturday as A. S. Gill, a 1972 batch Rajasthan cadre IPS officer, and N.P.S Aulakh, the former Punjab Deputy General of Police, took charge of their office here respectively.

Gill took over the charge from V K Joshi, who retired on Saturday after 38 years of distinguished service, while Aulakh succeeded J. K. Dutt, who has been superannuated.

"I know this force pretty well as I have earlier served it. The CRPF will have to re-orient itself and improve the present standards to meet its new challenges, including Naxals and insurgency," said the new CRPF chief A. S. Gill while adding that he considers his new assignment "honourable".

Gill will head the world's largest paramilitary force having a strength of 2,10,000 personnel (210 battalions), besides the newly raised anti-Naxal force COBRA.

Aulakh, a 1972 batch IPS officer of Punjab cadre, will lead the 10,000-commando strong NSG, a force which was highly praised for its successful anti-terror operations.

The outgoing CRPF DG Joshi was known to be an efficient officer as he had been credited with the establishment of COBRA and initiated steps for the establishment an intelligence wing in the force.

The retiring NSG chief Dutt led the November 26 operation from Mumbai with his black cat commandos. (ANI)
