Younis Khan seeks more result-oriented Test matches as Alam predicts Pak win

Lahore, Sat, 28 Feb 2009 ANI

Lahore, Feb.28 (ANI): Pakistan cricket captain Younis Khan has said that Test matches should be more result-oriented to lure spectators back to the classy version of the game.

Talking to reporters on the eve of the second and final Test match against Sri Lanka here, Khan said that the Gaddafi Stadium pitch will be a better playing track than the Karachi's 'lifeless' strip where he piled on a triple century.

He expressed hope that the Lahore pitch will offer bowlers some help, and anticipated a result in the match starting from Sunday, March 1.

Referring to the issue of several Pakistan cricket players siding with the rebel Indian Cricket League (ICL), he said: "The PCB has suffered the most by the Indian Cricket League (ICL)."

Meanwhile, Pakistan cricket coach, Intikhab Alam has expressed hope that his squad will pocket the Test series by winning the second match against Sri Lanka.

Alam said the Pakistani players were in good nick, and wanted to force a result in the second game.

"The boys are determined and want to continue from where they left in Karachi," The News quoted Alam, as saying.

He also said that the Gaddafi Stadium's pitch was different from the one in Karachi, and bowlers will certainly get help from it.

"There is grass on it. It looks firm and I expect that the ball will come onto the bat here," Alam said.

Alam also highlighted the importance of results in the Test matches which was necessary to maintain interest in the longer version of the game.

"Because of non-stop one-day cricket these days, people expect results in Tests, especially after 90 overs are bowled every day," he said, adding, "But the beauty of Test cricket is that you can never be sure about it." (ANI)
