Nokia assures its customers not to panic over battery issue
Aug 17: Millions of Nokia mobile phone users in India went into panic when they first heard the news that some of the batteries especially the BL-5C batteries may over heat and stop functioning and hence the company has recalled all the 46 million 5C batteries. Soon after users check their Nokia mobile handset and went to their nearest service centre for more information.
The response of the customer care centres and the mobile shop owner further added salt to their worries when they refused to have any kind of information from the company regarding this. However, the company through advertisements in TV and various national newspapers made it clear that it has issued a product advisory and not a product recall considering the safety of the customers. In this case if one spot his batteries as BL-5C then s/he can check the exact condition of the battery by the following methods and may go for replacement if required.
- SMS BT <26 character battery identification number> and send to 5555.
- Call Nokia Care at 30303838 prefixed by the local STD code if dialing from a mobile number or 080 if calling from a landline and state the 26 character battery identification number.
- Log on to www.nokia.co.in and enter the 26 character battery identification number.
If you find that your battery belongs to the particular category then the company has advised to replace it from the nearest Nokia care centre or Nokia dealer with free of cost. However, the company has requested all its customers not to panic as the current product advisory only constitutes those BL-5C batteries which have been manufactured by the Matsushita Battery Industrial Co.Ltd. of Japan between Dec 2005 and Nov 2006.
Nokia has also made it clear that there is no serious case of injuries or damage, as none of its batteries have been blast and only hundred incidents of overheat have been reported worldwide.
