'EU should effectively implement conservation laws in Malta'

News Release, Mon, 23 Feb 2009 NI Wire

Hindu statesman Rajan Zed in a statement in Nevada today said that EU and Malta should show a strong political will to stop reported crimes against biodiversity and prove that their conservation laws were effective in the streets and fields also and were not just paper laws.

Zed, who is president of Universal Society of Hinduism, said that the reported threats and attacks on conservationists, destruction of wetlands, illegal hunting, indiscriminate killing of birds, etc., should come to an end in Malta. EU and Malta should implement the existing conservation and hunting laws immediately and come up with additional new regulations to stop destruction of biodiversity.

Rajan Zed further said that only a very small minority in Malta reportedly were hunters and trappers. The majority of Malta people should raise public opinion against these crimes against biodiversity, promoting respect of EU and Malta laws.

Few European countries have such concentrated architecture, history, and beaches in so small an area as Malta. Maltese islands were first settled reportedly in 5,200 BCE.
