Maratha activists pelt stones on CM's chopper, Chavan escapes unhurt
Pune, Feb 19 (ANI): Maratha activists demanding reservation for their community in government jobs, hurled stones on Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan's helicopter when it landed at Shivneri Fort, around 100kms from Pune on Thursday.
However, Chavan escaped uninjured as the police acted swiftly and cane charged the demonstrators of the Marathas Mahasangh Coordinating Committee (MMCC), the umbrella body of all Maratha groups in the state.
The activists wanted to protest at the venue since Chavan had to attend a Chhatrapati Shivaji Jayanti function here.
However, the situation was later brought under control and the function was held shortly after the clash ended.
Several policemen and activists were reported injured in the incident. (ANI)
