Has SP approached Sourav Ganguly for polls?

Allahabad, Feb 17 (ANI): Career prospects in politics do not seem to appeal to former Indian cricket skipper Sourav Ganguly.

Dona Ganguly, Sourav's wife, who was in Allahabad to attend a dance show on Tuesday, said she was approached by some politician in Lucknow inviting her husband to contest from Uttar Pradesh.

Dona could not name the political party that approached Sourav. Unable to remember the details, she said, "Such offers keep coming...I don't remember who was it... I think it was Samajwadi Party."

However, Samajwadi Party General Secretary, Amar Singh, ruled out sending any formal proposal to Ganguly.

Though he was quick to state that if Sourav Ganguly wishes to join the party, it would be his good fortune.

On the other hand, Mohammad Azharuddin, another former Indian skipper, who visited the famous Ajmer Sharif shrine in Rajasthan recently, refused to comment when asked whether he would be contesting the polls.

Azhar has reportedly been roped in to contest elections on a Congress party ticket.

The general elections are expected to be held sometime between April and May. (ANI)
