Sania into the Pattaya Open final
India’s tennis star Sania Mirza on Saturday entered into the final of Pattaya Open, defeating the eighth-seeded Slovakian Magdalena Rybarikova 6-4 5-7 6-1.
In the two-hour long match, the unseeded Indian broke the service of Rybarikova in the fourth game of deciding third set to give herself a 3-1 lead. Sania then converted first of the three breakpoints, which she earned after the Slovakian double faulted.
Currently ranked at 126th in WTA charts, Sania will now meet top seed Russian Vera Zvonareva in the final of 2,20,000 dollar Pattaya Open. Zvonareva had also reached to the semi-finals of the recently concluded Australian Open.
In 2005, Sania became the first Indian player to win a WTA title when she won the Hyderabad Open in 2005. And this is for the fourth time in her career that Sania has reached the finals of a WTA tour event.
