Kasab's police custody extended till Feb 26
The lone surviving terrorist of the November 26 Mumbai attacks Mohammed Ajmal Amir Qasab’s remand has been extended till February 26. A Mumbai court on Friday delivered the judgement in relation to the Vile Parle blast case.
Kasab was in police custody till today for his involvement in the shootout at the Cama and Albless Hospital in South Mumbai. As many as 12 cases have been registered against him.
It was argued that the police had to carry out further investigations in the case for which custody was needed. He, however, was not produced in the court due to security reasons.
Pakistani national Ajmal Kasab along with another jihadi militant Ismail Khan attacked the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus on November 26 evening with AK-47 rifles and hand grenades, killing 58 persons and leaving over 100 injured.
Meanwhile, the Government of Pakistan, after initial disagreement and contradictory statements, has for the first time on Thursday (February 12) accepted that parts of the attacks had been planned on its soil. Earlier on January 7, after a month long denial Pakistan Information Minister, Sherry Rehman, had accepted Kasab’s nationality as Pakistani.
The Federal Investigating Agency (FIA) of Pakistan has registered criminal cases against Kasab and 13 others in its probe into the Mumbai attacks.
India had alleged Pakistan based terror organizations for their direct involvement in the deadly strikes and asked the Muslim nation to take proper action in dismantling terror outfits.
The attack by 10 terrorists belonging to Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) brought the whole nation to standstill for nearly three days, killing over 170 people and around 300 injured. Nine of the terrorists were killed while Kasab was the only terrorist captured alive.
