Yes, as we know ‘Adda’ is a Hindi word denoting hangout place. However as of now its user base is limited and new users can only sign up after receiving a formal invitation from the community or the network.
In India social networking site is getting popular day by day with the ever growing internet population. Though the search engine Google owned Orkut now is the major player in this filed there are others like Myspace, Facebook, Hi5, Yaari.com, i-share (rediff) and various others targeting specific community and interest of users.
As a new social networking site it has all the common features including blogs, photos, videos, communities or addas but nothing new features to attract those users who are already registered in Orkut and other competitor portals.
No doubt there must be some specific plans of Reliance as it is investing a huge amount of money on this but as of now it is not understandable. Again it’s known that Reliance has already gained a good share on the Indian entertainment industry. With its involvement in Indian film industry under the brand name ADLABS and with private FM Radio channels like the Big 92.7, the company is certainly trying to put on more market share covering all aspects of entertainment business.
If we take Orkut into account then it’s evident that Google mail had first created a base for it which it later takes its own. Google the search engine giant has a huge amount of resources to bring traffic to Orkut but here in case of Big Adda we can guess that Reliance Entertainment will try to add some features with value addition from its current entertainment units in the near future. Here the newly lunched Zapak Mail is a Reliance ADA group venture company with various new features basically a gaming portal will try to create base for Big Adda.
No doubt these SN sites will make money with the growing users but then need to come up with some new innovative ideas with user friendly features. However, as far as Adda is concerned the company has cleared with the line that it is an “Indian Blogs and Indian Youth Networking Site”, so its user base can only be confined to India. But no question of thumping Orkut or Myspace as they offer wider international users that most of us preferred.
