Miandad's 'exorbitant' Rs 1.6 million salary demand behind sacking, claims Butt

Karachi, Tue, 10 Feb 2009 ANI

Karachi, Feb.10 (ANI): The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has revealed that Javed Miandad demanded an exorbitant salary package which forced the Board to sack him from the post of Director-General.

PCB chief Ijaz Butt said Miandad turned down the offer of Rs 500,000 and demanded Rs 1.6 million as salary.

"Miandad asked for a salary which we could not give to him. I regard him highly as a great cricketer but we can't pay him more than what we had offered him," the News quoted Butt, as saying.

Butt also charged Miandad of interfering in team selection procedures, as well as administrative matters of the apex cricket controlling body in the country.

"He's not capable of handling either financial of administrative matters of the PCB," he said.

However, Miandad has rejected Butt's claims saying PCB is framing him falsely.

Miandad said he never asked for the amount of money which Butt had quoted.

"Money was not an issue and I never asked for the amount which Mr. Butt is talking about," he said.

Miandad added that he served the Board for two months without any pay, and would like to work on an honorary basis if the PCB officials give him enough room to perform his duties. (ANI)
