Slumdog steals the show at BAFTA
As the 81st Annual Academy Awards is just two weeks away (February 22), the Danny Boyle-directed movie “Slumdog Millionaire” has every reason to aspire for the big at Oscars with already seven BAFTAs in its kitty, including Best Film and Best Director.
The Rag-to-riches story, which talks about the story of a Mumbai street boy who grew up in the slums and went on to winning a millionaire game show, stole the whole British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTAs) award ceremony held in London on Sunday evening.
The film won awards for Best Film, Best Director (Danny Boyle), Best Screenplay (Simon Beaufoy), Best Editing (Chris Dickens), Best Cinematography (Anthony Dod Mantle), Best Sound (Resul Pookutty, Glen Freemantle, Richard Pryke, Tom Sayers, Ian Tapp), and Best Music (AR Rahman).
Bollywood music director AR Rahman won another prestigious international award after winning the Golden Globe in the category of Best Original Score.
Apart from Rahman, Resul Pookutty was the other Indian to win a BAFTA Award for Best Sound editing for Slumdog Millionaire.
As BAFTA is considered as the pointer to the winner in Oscars, many believe Slumdog as the Oscar favorite. The film has already won four Golden Globes and got 10 nominations for the Academy Awards.
