Alaska State Senate find Sarah Palin's hubby in contempt

Washington, Sat, 07 Feb 2009 ANI

Washington, February 7 (ANI): The State Senate in Alaska voted on Friday to find Governor Sarah Palin's husband, Todd, in contempt for failing to testify despite being subpoenaed in September last year by state lawmakers in the "Troopergate" investigation.

Ted, along with nine of Sarah's aides, failed to appear at any of the scheduled hearings, say reports.

Though they issued written statements responding to lawmaker inquiries, they made it clear that they would not attend the hearings.

According to Politico.com, a legislative report on the Troopergate scandal found that Sarah abused her power in firing her ex-brother-in-law, who was engaged in a bitter custody battle with her sister.

The resolution passed the Senate 16-1, and contained language ensuring that none of the 10 individuals would be subject to further legal action on the matter.

The resolution was sponsored by Democratic State Senator Hollis French.

He told the Anchorage Daily News that "a lot of people were upset that the subpoenas were ignored", and that the resolution "memorialises their contempt."

Sarah's office did not issue any statement on the vote. (ANI)
