Pak accuses India of human rights abuses in Kashmir

The Indian government was accused of gross human rights violation by the Pakistan Embassy in Bahrain on the occasion of Kashmir Solidarity Day.


The embassy marked the day on Thursday where a series of events including poetry, patriotic songs and speeches were made by members of the Pakistani community in the Kingdom. Kashmir Solidarity Day is observed on February 5 which is aimed to express solidarity with people of Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

“We will continue to support Kashmiri people in their quest for realizing their right for self determination. Pakistan calls for an end to the human rights violation in the Indian Occupied Kashmir,” a statement by Asif Ali Al Zardari, President of Pakistan was read by senior embassy officials.

Several Anti- Indian remarks were reportedly made by a female speaker of Kashmiri origin during the event which was attended by over 300 people. Students of Pakistan School and Pakistan Urdu School made speeches and highlighted the Kashmiri freedom struggle. The gathering was held in the embassy premises in Zinj area.

A press release issued by the embassy which was later given to journalists stated- “The Ambassador of Pakistan highlights the gross violation of human rights in India Held Kashmir and stressed the need for peaceful solution of the Kashmir dispute.”

Last year, the Pakistan Embassy complained to the Bahrain authorities regarding an article published in a local magazine referring Jammu and Kashmir as an Indian province. Mohammed Salim, deputy head of the Pakistan Mission had said, “The area mentioned in the report is a disputed state that is recognised by India and the United Nations. We have complained to the Bahrain Ministry of Foreign Affairs about the case.”

Bahrain, a close US ally is home to over 50,000 Pakistanis and 300,000 Indians.
