Rajasthan government tables Quota Bill
Jaipur, July 14 (ANI): The Rajasthan Government tabled the Rajasthan Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Class, Special Backward Classes, and Economically Backward Classes, Reservation Bill 2008, during its special Monsoon Session here today.
The Bill seeks reservation status for four castes, including Gujjars under the Special Backward Classes category, and the poor among the upper castes while making recruitments for state government posts.
The Congress has criticised the bill as "hollow".
The bill is likely to come up for discussion during the next sitting of the House.
After the Gujjar agitation in May and June which claimed 38 lives in police firing, the Bharatiya Janata Party Government had agreed to extend five per cent reservation to Gujjars, Rebari, Nomades (Gardia Lohar), and Banjara, and 14 per cent to the poor among the Economically Backward Classes (EBC).
