Slumdog Millionaire misses out on major Brit movie awards

London, Feb 3 (ANI): Even though Slumdog Millionaire won five of the six awards that it had been nominated for, it missed out on all the major awards at the London Evening Standard Film Awards.

 

The Danny Boyle directed film was beaten by Brit movie 'Hunger', with The Reader's Stephen Daldry getting the Best Director award and Tilda Swinton bagging Best Actress for her role in Julia, reports the Daily Express.

 

'Hunger', which tells the story of Irish Republican Army hunger striker Bobby Sands, won the Best Film honour at the event in the U.K. capital on February 1.

 

Pat Shortt was awarded Best Actor for his role in 'Garage', and shared it with Michael Sheen, for Frost/Nixon.

 

Filmmaker Mike Leigh was given the Alexander Walker Special Award for his contribution to the British film industry.

 

Sally Hawkins, who stars in Leigh's Happy-Go-Lucky, won the Peter Sellers award for comedy, and Martin McDonagh took Best Screenplay for In Bruges.

 

Director Joanna Hogg was named most promising newcomer for Unrelated, and Mark Digby, production designer on Slumdog Millionaire won the technical achievement gong. (ANI)
