Due to the behaviour of an unruly passenger, the Sunday evening brought a nightmare for many aboard in an Indigo flight coming from Goa to Delhi. The flight was landed at the IGI airport after rumours of hijack.

The three-hour long hijack drama ended with the detention of three, including one woman, who were allegedly involved in causing panic among passengers by threatening to hijack the plane. However, two of them were released later, and one was arrested for behaving aggressively.

It all began at about 5.15 pm when the pilot of Indigo Flight No. 6E- 334 raised security alert after being informed that there were couple of passengers behaving aggressively who also said that they would hijack the plane.

Following the alarm, all precautionary measures were activated as per the prescribed drill and the plane was made emergency landing at 5.30 pm, then taken to an isolated area and CISF/NSG immediately cordoned off the area.

‘The Committee of Secretaries on Anti–Hijacking (COSAH) chaired by the Cabinet Secretary met immediately thereafter. After reviewing all aspects of the situation and satisfying itself that it was safe to disembark the passengers, the decision was taken to do so with all precautions in place including screening of the alighting passengers,’ a release of the Ministry of Civil Aviation said.

Due to this inconvenient, air traffic was halted for an hour and some flights were asked by the Air Traffic Control to hover over the Delhi air space.
