Lok Sabha Speaker calls for an all party meet on human trafficking
April 25: Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee has called for an all-party meeting to discuss the conduct of MPs involved in human trafficking. He said that he is going to make an announcement regarding this issue when the session starts tomorrow.
In todayâ??s meting Chatterjee and the party leaders arrived at the seriousness of the issue and concluded that the matter canâ??t be taken lightly.
After the arrest of BJP MP Babu Bhai Katara, in connection with a case of human trafficking and the involvement of some other MPs, the issue turned out to be crucial and it had become exemplary to discuss, as legislature is one of the fundamental pillars of democracy.
The meeting will also discuss the action against the accused MPs. However, BJP has stressed that the case against the partyâ??s MP and others should be handed over to a Parliamentary committee for action.
The Speaker also said that it was agreed by all parties to discuss issues like Finance Bill and price rise, OBC quota and the intervention of judiciary will also be discussed in the later part of the budget session.
