New York, Jan 25 (IANS) Spanish actress Penelope Cruz, who has been nominated for Oscar this year, hopes to walk away with the revered prize as a homage to her homeland.
Cruz is nominated in the best actress in supporting role category for 'Vicky Cristina Barcelona'.
Imdb.com quoted her as saying: 'I am eternally indebted to the Academy (and) to Woody Allen who gave me this opportunity. I am very happy to see all the affection and congratulations I have received, especially those from Spain. Let's hope I can bring it home.'
Cruz faces tough competition for the trophy as she's up against Viola Davis and Amy Adams for 'Doubt', Marisa Tomei for 'The Wrestler', and Taraji P. Henson for 'The Curious Case of Benjamin Button'.
But the actress, who has one previous Oscar nomination for 2006 'Volver', hopes she walks away with the revered prize as a homage to her homeland.
