Melbourne, Jan.25 (ANI): Australian vice-captain Michael Clarke is set to land a massive 1.7 million dollar deal by making himself available for the Indian Premier League.
According to the Sunday Telegraph, Australian players have become the primary recruitment target for the IPL's eight franchises, which will fork out more than 11 million dollars collectively for 32 local products ahead of the second season starting on April 10.
The paper has learnt that the IPL outfits will demand that the Australian team's top stars make themselves available for the back end of the tournament. The demand follows an amended ICC playing schedule that will now see the likes of Ricky Ponting and Andrew Symonds travel from Australia's series against Pakistan straight to India without a break ahead of Australia's tour to England.
Clarke, who sat out last year's inaugural tournament for family reasons, must inform tournament officials this week whether he will enter the IPL auction on February 6.
It is understood Clarke will come to the party. Three IPL franchises have already registered their interest, with a fierce bidding war expected for the 27-year-old.
Leading player agent Neil Maxwell, who recently stood down as chief executive of Mohali-based Kings XI Punjab, believes Clarke would easily fetch in excess of one million dollars for a two-year deal.
Australia gloveman Brad Haddin and South Australia tearaway Shaun Tait are others on course for a seven-figure payday at the IPL auction on Friday week.
The IPL tournament will be held between April 10 and May 24. (ANI)
