Rifle grenade explosion injures CRPF men in TN
Aug 10: An accident took place in the training college of CRPF in Tamilnadu in which at least 10 CRPF personnel of new batch of CRPF men got injured.
In the morning around 10:00am when the training was going on in CRPF central training college, a rifle grenade exploded accidentally. Instructors and constables were undergoing training for their promotion.
Two, deputy commandant R K Barua and head constable Manindar Pal got badly hurt and have been admitted to hospital in the city. The latter got serious head injury so has ben under utmost care.
As rifle and hand grenade constitute part of the training program of CRPF as this is a paramilitary force which is mostly stationed in conflict ridden areas.
But thousands of grenades are used during training sessions and such things happen occasionally said Francis DIG CRPF training camp. The cause of the accident is not clear. Police will look into the matter how the incident took place in the camp.
Recruits are given training of all security weapons such as light machine guns electronic gadgets and other devices. They are also trained in the use of trajectory weapons in view of allotment of variety of tasks as maintenance of law and order, guard duties, protection to VIPs, combating terrorists.
Active participation in various operations against dacoits demands a tough training on the part of recruits.
Earlier the training college was in Avadi which was shifted to Coimbatore due to lack of inadequate infrastructure and area. Campus lies in the foot hills of Sanjeevi hills which provides proper sites for outdoor training. It is one of the most modern training institutions.
