NHRC police officer awarded Police Medal for meritorious services
New Delhi, Jan.25 (ANI): Om Prakash Vyas, a Deputy Superintendent of Police posted in the Investigation Division of the National Human Rights Commission, has been declared the winner of the Police Medal for meritorious services on the occasion of Republic Day 2009.
This is consecutively the fifth time that a police officer from the Commission has been honored with the Police Medal for meritorious services.
Mr. Vyas joined the Indian Police Service in 1995 and has been part of several important investigations in matter of human rights violations, including the rescue of three girls from a circus in 2004, the rescue of Geeta Sharma of Dhaulpur, who was captive in her house for two years.
He was also a part of the investigation team that went to Chhatisgarh to investigate the activities of naxalites and Salwa Judum activists, an NHRC media release this. (ANI)
