Bangladesh gets Brazilian to coach footballers

Bangladesh, Sun, 25 Jan 2009 IANS

Dhaka, Jan 25 (IANS) Bangladesh has got Brazilian coach Edson 'Dido' Silva to train its national football team, a media report said Sunday.

Dido, a former Flamengo and Santos defender in the top division Brazilian league in the 90s, said: 'As a coach I know about the ingredients I have to work on here because I have been working in Asia for long. The factors for development of soccer are almost the same in all the Asian countries.'

Dido arrived here Saturday. He also holds Dutch nationality, was national coach of Vietnam and Taiwan and has also coached clubs in Holland, China, UAE, Israel, and Malta.

He may be retained for a year at $4,000 per month.

'I can't say anything about Bangladesh football but want to see what facilities they have got. You need a long strategy for development, like Japan used to send young players to Brazil to learn the game. There is no short way to success in football,' the 46-year-old was quoted as saying in The Daily Star Sunday.
