Sao Paulo, Jan 25 (DPA) After having her hands and feet amputated, Brazil's top model Mariana Bridi, 20, died Saturday from a rampant bacterial infection and was buried the same day.
An estimated 1,000 people poured out for her funeral in Marechal Floriano, in the south-eastern province of Esirito Santo, according to the news portal Globo.com.
The two-time finalist in the Miss World contest in Brazil was admitted Jan 3 to the Dorio Silva Hospital in Serra, in the south-east of the province. Doctors undertook the amputations in the hopes of stopping the spreading infection.
The cause of death was septic shock caused by the 'pseudomonas aeruginosa' bacteria.
'We have lost a rare jewel,' Mariana's father, Agnaldo Bridi, 56, said.
