Shillong (Meghalaya), July 13 (ANI): As an increasing number of fresh graduates are getting drawn to call centre and Sky cabin jobs in the country, youngsters in Meghalaya are steadily joining the bandwagon and ensuring they don't lag behind.

Meghalya's first domestic round-the-clock call centre, which was set up here in 2005 by the S. S. Netcom Private Limited in Shillong, is helping them join this popular job market.

Meanwhile, this call centre is the first of its kind in the entire region dealing on domestic AIRCEL line for the entire northeast region.

"This is one of the first 24x7 call centres. We are catering to the domestic client that is AIRCEL for their entire North East circle. From 2005 to this date, the call centre has grown into a 100- seater call centre, employing almost over 600 technically qualified personnel working round the clock in various divisions of the company," said Debopriyo Deb, the Chief Executive Officer of S. S. Netcom Company and franchisee of Hero Mind Mine.

Like other call centres in the metropolitan cities, this call centre too provides all facilities from transportation, free meal, recreational activities and many others to its staff besides other perks.

Today, S. S. Netcom Private Limited, franchising for Hero Mind Mine Institute is diversifying into software development, net designing, networking solution and so on.

"This institute is basically training people on the IT sector. We are giving them employment in my organisation plus giving them employment in other companies be it Wipro, be it Convergence, people are joining others after finishing off their respective courses from here," said Debopriyo Deb.

The income, which includes basic pay varying between rupees 5,000 to 6,000 excluding various other incentives, has proved a major fascination for 30 to 32 per cent of graduates here who are opting for these jobs.

Neelam Kandoi associated with the S. S. Netcom Private Limited for last three years, says: "My experience in this company has been very good and what I feel that whoever comes out of this company, he or she comes out quite polished personality. Whenever and wherever they go, they do much-much better than what they learnt here. It is because their level of knowledge gets lifted."

S.S.Netcom also happens to be the first provider of basic Internet service not just in Meghalya, but all States of northeast region in 2000.

Besides, entreprenuer Debopriyo Deb also holds the credit in setting up an academy to train cabin crew for the aviation sector.

Although there is no major Air flights connectivity to Shillong, as the airstrip of Barapani is nearly 20 miles from the main city, the city today boasts of having a flight attendant, airhostess and other stewardess-training institute.

The Frankfinn Institute of Airhostess Training is the pioneer in this field and started its operation here in 2005.

The institute charges Rs.130,000 to 150,000 as course fees.

"This has actually been a boon to the northeast. In fact the students here, we've so far placed 3,700 students from this institute itself from Shillong, who are now successfully flying. Girls, who always dreamt, boys who always dreamt to fly but couldn't do, so but This institute in the northeast has come up as a boon for this region, boys and girls who always dreamt about such jobs, can actually realize it," said Samuel Stephen, the Head of Frankfinn Institute of Airhostess Training in Shillong.

Presently, the institute has enrolled over 90 students from Meghalaya as well as other northeastern States.

"They have a very homely atmosphere out here. The faculty is very good. They teach us in very friendly environment, so this is very good experience for all who aspire to become an airhostess," said Devleena Das, one student at the Frankfinn Institute.

Meghalya's official language being English also proves to an added advantage for the youngsters here. By Hempi D. Henpilen (ANI)
