Anil Kapoor says Slumdog Oscar nods "great for India"

London, Jan 23 (ANI): Slumdog Millionaire, which has clinched ten Oscar nominations, has generated huge excitement and pride in the home of Bollywood - Mumbai.

 

It has seen the first ever triple Oscar nomination for an Indian.

 

Music composer A.R. Rahman has been nominated for Best Original Score and two of his numbers were shortlisted for Best Original Song.

 

Other nominations include for best motion picture, best director, best adapted screenplay, best film editing, best sound editing, best sound mixing and best cinematography.

 

The film, which showcases a string of known and lesser-known Indian actors, has a British director - Danny Boyle - and its screenplay was written by a Briton - Simon Beaufoy of Full Monty fame.

 

The best-selling novel, on which the film is based, is authored by an Indian, Vikas Swarup.

 

"We absolutely never imagined this. This is great for India," Sky News quoted Anil Kapoor, who is one of the film's stars, as saying. (ANI)
