BSP bags seven of 12 legislative council seats in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow, Jan 22 (IANS) The ruling Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) bagged seven of the 12 vacant seats in the Uttar Pradesh legislative council to which biennial poll was held here Thursday.

 

While three seats went to the opposition Samajwadi Party, two were retained by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Ranjit Singh Judeo, the lone Congress candidate in the fray, lost miserably .

 

 

The poll was marked by large-scale cross-voting largely in favour of the ruling BSP, which polled 23 extra votes, over and abode its own strength in the upper house of the assembly.

 

 

As against its sitting strength of 214 members in the house, the BSP polled a total of 237 votes in favour of its seven nominees.

 

 

The BSP winners were Naseemuddin Siddiqui, Ashok Siddharth, Dharam Prakash Bharti, Ram Raksha Pal, Shyam Singh Baghel, Lokesh Prajapati and O.P. Tripathi.

 

 

Ramesh Yadav, Sarojini Agarwal and Ahmed Hasan were elected from the Samajwadi Party, while Vinod Pande and Babu Ram M.Com. were the BJP winners.
