Flower show at Lalbagh Gardens draws thousands in Bangalore

Bangalore, Jan.22 (ANI): Flower lovers are making a beeline at the ongoing week-long flower show at the historic Lalbagh Gardens in Bangalore city of Karnataka.

 

Organised jointly by the Karnataka State Horticulture Department and Mysore Horticultural Society, the popular flower show aims to bring people together to enjoy the nature and know more about the variety of flowers and plants grown in and around the city.

 

Over 350 varieties of flowers have been put on display at the exhibition that has flowers like roses, marigolds, geranium and brachycome and celosia.

 

Flower lovers are making a beeline to the ongoing week-long flower show at the historic Lalbagh Gardens in Bangalore city in Karnataka.

 

"I enjoyed very much to have spent time here. I see flowers, we have in France. But you have lot of colours, a lot of beautiful things. And, you make beautiful pots and elephants. When I return at the end of the week to France, I will take along with me a nice memory of this exhibition," said Jonia, a French visitor.

 

This year, beautiful flower formations of elephants and birds are drawing the crowds. But the most interesting feature is the thirsty crow and half-filled pitcher story depiction.

 

"The flower show is really nice. I really enjoyed it there are many roses here and they have even depicted the thirsty crow story using the flowers. All these formations are nice; I have not seen such formations earlier," said Girish, another visitor.

 

Counted among the most beautiful gardens in India, Lalbagh Gardens houses a variety of tropical plants, herbs and trees in its lawns spread over 240 acres.

 

Lal Bagh Gardens are aesthetically designed and house green lawns, flowerbeds, lotus pools, watering systems for irrigation and fountains.

 

The garden derived its name 'Lal Bagh' because of a collection of red roses that remain blooming throughout the year in this garden.

 

Currently the garden is blooming with hundreds of varieties of flowers, ornamental plants, bonsais, and medicinal plants besides roses.

 

Lal Bagh Gardens also have a collection of famous Botanical species and is therefore referred as Lal Bagh Botanical Gardens as well.

 

Though people in large numbers visit the Lalbagh Gardens usually, the garden gets a festive look around the Republic Day celebrations (Jan.26) when the flower show is held in it.

 

The flower show commenced on January 17 this year, with participation ofundreds of nurseries from in and around Bangalore. It will last till January 26, coinciding with the nation's Republic Day. By Sanjeev (ANI)
