Lashkar talks peace in Kashmir, if world intervenes

“If the world listens to our cries and plays its role in resolving the Kashmir issue, there is no point in continuing fighting,” said a Lashkar-e-Taiba spokesperson, Dr. Abdullah Ghaznavi.

In a statement released on Saturday, the banned terror outfit stated LeT compelled to take up arms as a last resort for the liberation of Kashmir when the world community did not pay heed to its clamour for intervention on the Kashmir issue, but if freedom can be achieved with peaceful means we would welcome it.

‘We just want the freedom of Kashmir and if the international community intervenes for the apt resolution of Kashmir issue, why would we continue our armed struggle?’ asked Ghaznavi, claiming they had no relations or association with armed groups operating at international level.

“We don't have a global agenda. We have done nothing (in the UK), and we don't have any such plans. The British government should be careful in accusing someone,” he said dubbing British Foreign Secretary David Miliband’s remarks — LeT behind the Mumbai terror attacks — as unfortunate.

The LeT statement comes a day after Miliband pressed upon the importance of resolving Kashmir issue as it was connected to peace in South Asia, and pointed out flaws in the notion of “war on terror”.

Welcoming Miliband’s comments as positive, Dr Gaznavi said: “Only positive comments are not enough. British government must play its role in resolution of Kashmir issue because it is responsible of this issue which is bone of contention between Pakistan and India; and urged not jump to conclusions, putting blame on LeT for Mumbai attacks, when the investigation is on by the two governments.”
