New Delhi, Jan.18 (ANI): Regional Transport Office (RTO) at Indraprastha in the national capital had an unusual visitor in Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh who sought to renew his driving license on Sunday.

Dr. Singh's driving license expired a month-and-a-half ago. And, he insisted on renewing it by visiting the RTO office personally like any other ordinary citizen.

Accompanied by his wife Gursharan Kaur, Dr. Singh chose to visit this office on Sunday, giving a concession to the security personnel. His wife also had her license renewed.

Dr. Singh fulfilled all the expected formalities for renewal of the license by getting himself photographed and fingerprinted as required for the new biometric license. He also produced the mandatory medical fitness certificate.

Singh arrived at 11.30 AM and was at the RTO for about 15 minutes.

Motor Licensing Officer Pradeep Anand handed over the renewed license to the prime minister. Transport Commissioner R K Verma and senior officials were present when Dr. Singh arrived.

The RTO which does not function on Sundays was specially kept open for the prime minister, as weekdays witness a huge crowd at the transport offices.

Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh had got the license from the same RTO in the 1990s, when he was Finance Minister in the P. V. Narasimha Rao government. He had it renewed in 2003, when he was leader of the opposition in Rajya Sabha. (ANI)
