Chandigarh, Jan 18 (IANS) Punjab Information and Public Relations Minister Bikramjit Singh Majithia Sunday submitted his resignation from the state cabinet to Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.
'I have no pressure on me and I am giving my resignation on my own will. It will make a way for Sukhbir Singh Badal to enter the cabinet. I consider myself fortunate as I am vacating the seat for Sukhbir,' Majithia told media persons outside the Punjab Raj Bhawan Sunday evening after meeting Governor S.F. Rodrigues.
'I think the people of Punjab need the services of Sukhbir and he can serve the state in better form if he is in the cabinet. Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has been very helpful to me and I will continue to serve the people of Punjab as an active member of the party,' he said.
Majithia, who is the brother-in-law of Sukhbir, the SAD chief, said that he is even ready to resign as a legislator depending on the conditions.
Meanwhile, Harcharan Bains, media advisor to the Punjab chief minister, said that oath-taking ceremony of Sukhbir for the post of deputy chief minister of the state would be held at the holy city of Amritsar in Punjab, around 250 km from here, Jan 21.
