We are not scared of Mendis, says Misbah
Karachi, Jan 18 (IANS) Pakistan vice-captain Misbah-ul-Haq made it clear Sunday that their batsmen are not intimidated by Sri Lanka's freak spinner Ajantha Mendis.
Speaking ahead of a three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, Misbah hailed Mendis as a very good bowler but was quick to add that his team was prepared to face him.
'None of our players is scared of Mendis,' Misbah told reporters after a practice session at the National Stadium here. 'We have prepared a plan that will help us to tackle him,' said Misbah.
'We know he has a variety of deliveries but we also have been working hard to prepare against him and other (Sri Lanka) bowlers.'
Sri Lanka arrived in Karachi Sunday to play in a three-match one-day series that will get underway from Tuesday at the National Stadium here.
Misbah said Pakistan will enjoy a psychological advantage over Sri Lanka as they were given a hard time by minnows Bangladesh in a recently-concluded tri-series tournament.
Misbah hopes Pakistan will prepare quick wickets to utilise a strong pace attack spearheaded by comeback quickie Shoaib Akhtar.
'We have a strong pace attack and if we get fast wickets, it could be really good for us.'
However, Misbah made it clear that he and his team will not take anything for granted against Sri Lanka.
'You can't underestimate Sri Lanka. They are a very strong side with a really good bowling attack and some very good batsmen,' he said.
