Bayern under-23 beat East Bengal in exhibition match

Kolkata, Jan 17 (IANS) A visiting Bayern Munich under-23 side struck early to beat local outfit East Bengal 1-0 in an exhibition match at Barasat near here Saturday.

 

Yilmaj scored the winning goal in the third minute at match played at the Vidyasagar stadium and treated as a practice outing by both sides.

 

 

'Bayern were good, but we also played well. I am quite satisfied with the way the boys performed against a technically and physically superior side,' East Bengal coach Subhash Bhowmick said after the match.

 

 

German soccer legend Gerd Muller, the assistant coach of the visiting side - on a week's training schedule here - was felicitated by East Bengal club. The club's chief coach Hermann Gerland was also feted.

 

 

Muller was felicitated in a typical Bengali tradition, with sweets and a shawl.

 

 

The next practice game between the two sides will be played Monday.

 

 

Bayern will wrap up their tour by playing against Siliguri Mayor's XI at the Kanchenjunga Stadium Jan 21.
