Chhattisgarh BJP acts against 65 senior members
Raipur, Jan 17 (IANS) Chhattisgarh's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) took action against 65 senior members across the state Saturday for their 'anti-party role' in the assembly polls last November, party sources said.
They said that 30 members were expelled while 35 others were suspended for working against the party's official candidates during the state's 90-member assembly polls which the BJP won by bagging 50 seats.
Party sources added that majority of the members against whom action was taken enjoyed strong influence in their village panchayats and blocks but the party took the strong decision in order to send a message that it 'would not tolerate any anti-party activities'.
Earlier this month, the party expelled a Lok Sabha MP from Durg, Tara Chand Sahu, and suspended Shiv Pratap Singh, Rajya Sabha MP, on similar charges.
