Karachi, Jan 17 (IANS) On the verge of bankruptcy, Pakistan's dope-tainted fast bowler Mohammad Asif flew off to Mumbai Saturday in a desperate bid to collect dues owed to him by the Delhi Daredevils, an Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise.
Asif, 28, told reporters here at the Jinnah International airport that he was forced to sell his house and car in his legal battle against a possible doping ban and urgently needs cash to avoid going completely bankrupt.
'My visit to India is aimed at resolving the payment issue because I am running out of money. I had to sell my car and a house to meet legal expenses and now I have to get my remaining dues from Delhi Daredevils,' he said.
Asif failed a dope test while featuring in the inaugural season of the cash-rich IPL last May. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) later suspended him.
He is scheduled to appear before an IPL drugs tribunal in Mumbai on Jan 24.
