Prime Minister nominated for "NDTV Indian of the Year award"
New Delhi, Jan17 (ANI): Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has been nominated for the Indian of the year 2009 award.
Olympic gold medallist Abhinav Bindra , Cine actor Naseeruddin Shah and ISRO Chief G Madhavan Nair are amongst a few chosen for the run to win this prestigious award, sponsored by January 2.
The news channel announced the nominees in six categories in the Capital on Friday. The awards will be conferred on Wednesday.
Golfer Jeev Milkha Singh, Chess Champion V Anand, Indian cricket team captain M S Dhoni, Badminton player Saina Nehwal and Olympic Bronze metal winner Vijender Singh were nominated in the Sports category. Industrialists Ratan Tata and Mukesh Ambani, Bankers Deepak Parekh and Kundapur Vaman Kamath have been nominated for the award in the Business section.
In the Arts and Culture section, the nominees are distinguished painter MF Hussain, artist Subodh Gupta, Kiran Setha and writer Arvind Adiga.
The jury for selecting the winner includes Shashi Tharoor, Harshe Bhogle, Fali S Nariman, Anu Aga, Rahul Bajaj and William Dalrymple.(ANI)
