New Delhi, Jan 16 (IANS) Former Indian cricket team captain Kapil Dev Friday told the Delhi High Court that he was just a cricketer and not aware of the rules and regulations of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Kapil was being cross-examined on a plea by him seeking the court's direction to the BCCI to release the pension due to him and other players who joined the rival Indian Cricket League (ICL).
Counsels, appearing for the BCCI, asked the former captain several questions related to his business, qualifications, his knowledge about the rules of the board and information about other retired players.
They began their cross-examination by asking Kapil whether he had a law degree, which he denied.
'I am only a cricketer and don't know its (board's) rules and regulations and am unaware what is there in the rule book of BCCI. Even my appointment letter did not have any mention about the rules at all,' he submitted before Registrar of the high court.
Earlier, Kapil accused the BCCI of adopting delaying tactics. His cross-examination will continue Saturday.
Kapil Dev, who fell out of favour with the BCCI following his decision to back the Indian Cricket League (ICL), has argued that a player should not be denied pension for services rendered just because he sides with what the board has termed a 'rebel' venture.
