Gulf-Middle East, Thu, 15 Jan 2009 IANS

Abu Dhabi, Jan 15 (IANS) It was a disappointing start for the Indian quartet on a hailstorm-hit opening day at the $2.5 million Abu Dhabi Open, as Shiv Kapur alone managed a par-round here Thursday.

Kapur shot 72, despite a triple bogey on the second nine and a bogey on his closing hole, the ninth, and was lying tied 62nd. Jeev Milkha Singh (74) was tied 92nd and S.S.P. Chowrasia (75) was tied 103rd. Jyoti Randhawa was even par after nine holes, as many of the players were unable to complete their first round.

Play was hit by a two-hour stoppage on account of a hailstorm in the morning..

The clubhouse leaders were both Swedish Johan Edfors and Mikael Lundberg, who came home with six-under 66 each. Three others Oliver Fisher, Francisco Molinari and Jarmo Sandelin shot five-under 67 each in tied third place.
