Despite being left out from the probable list for Champion’s Trophy, the former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly expressed his hope to continue his ODI career and won’t retire. He was speaking at the sidelines of a function organised at his own residence in Kolkata after winning the Castrol awards for Asian Cricketer of the year and Asian Batsman of the year.
Looking forward for the Test Series in Sri Lanka, Sourav said ‘Ajanta Mendis is the next bowler to watch out for. Though his leg spin doesn’t turn much but his change of pace is the key to understand before taking on. But batsmen will start picking him after playing him more often.’
Responding Indian One Day captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s decision to take a break from the Test series in Sri Lanka, Sourav said: “It’s a personal decision and being a the captain and kipper he has taken a lot of pressure in recent past and it is natural to feel drained. However, not every cricketer can afford to take a break.”
“I don’t remember pulling out of a Test series because of tiredness when I was the captain,” the former captain and one the exciting Left hand batsman in any form of the game said to reporters.
Starting his career in 1992 against West Indies, Ganguly at present is the fourth Indian to have played in more than 300 ODIs and also one amongst the seven to score over 10,000 runs in ODIs in the world. He is also regarded as India’s most successful Test captain while leading his team in 49 Test matches with a record of 21 wins.
Saurabh is in no mood to leave any amber inside unutilised. While talking to the reporters, he asserted that he has no time to think of ODIs or anything else than concentrating on tests and the upcoming Sri Lankan series. He further made sure to the reporters that he is still enjoying cricket and as long as he does so, he is not going to hang up his boots.
