Koirala, Prachanda worried over Madhesi boycott in Nepal

Kathmandu, July 11 (ANI): Nepal's Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala and Maoist chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' have stated that the Madhesi parties' walkout from the Constituent Assembly (CA) meeting was a grave issue and they needed to have a serious discussion with them.

During the meeting held at the Prime Minister's residence on Thursday evening, oth leaders agreed that they should hold open discussions with the Madhesi leaders and try to find a mutually agreeable solution to the problems raised by the Madhesi parties.

Prachanda hoped that the Madhesi leaders would come to a compromise and take part in the new Government.

According to sources, Prachanda also sought of the Nepali Congress support for running the new Government.

Madhesi leaders, however, said they are close to concluding that the Constituent Assembly has become to address the problems of Madhes.

"If the big parties decided the issues through mathematical strength, our 80 or 81 seats will have no meaning. If the issues we have raised are defeated through numerical majority, there will be no alternative to hitting the streets," said Rajendra Mahato, chairman of Sadbhavana Party.

He also warned that the Madhesis would not subscribe to a future constitution drafted through a majority decision in the Constituent Assembly.

"If the big parties want to concede their mistake, they can table an amendment proposal to the bill under the Constituent Assembly's consideration," said Mahato, Kantipur reported. (ANI)
