Bhopal, Jan 15 (IANS) The son of noted freedom fighter Colonel G.S. Dhillon, who was a close associate of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and a member of the Indian National Army, committed suicide in Madhya Pradesh's Shivpuri district, police said Thursday.

Amarjeet Singh, 50, committed suicide Wednesday under mysterious circumstances at Narwar rest house in the district, over 300 km from the state capital, M.M. Tiwari, in charge of Narwar Police station, told IANS on phone.

His wife was also present at the rest house, 40 km from the district headquarters, when he shot himself with a licensed revolver. The exact causes which led him to commit suicide are yet to be ascertained.

Amarjeet Singh had purchased some agricultural land in Nizampur village near Narwar and was constructing a farmhouse there. He used to spend nights at the Narwar rest house because there was no other place available in the village to stay. Other members of the Dhillon family live in village Hatot, some 10 km from Shivpuri.

'He had tea with his wife in the morning and then went inside leaving his wife in the lawn of the rest house. After some time, a gun shot was heard from inside the rest house and she and the guard rushed inside to find him lying in a pool of blood,' police said, citing the guard's account.
