Businessman in Chandigarh robbed of Rs.280,000 at gunpoint
Chandigarh, Jan 15 (IANS) A businessman was robbed of Rs.280,000 in cash and telephone recharge coupons worth thousands of rupees in Chandigarh Wednesday night, police said Thursday.
The businessman, Anmol Kohli, runs an agency of a private telecom company in Sector-9 of the city - a densely populated and high security zone, where several high-profile people live. The police headquarters is just 500 metres from the spot where the robbery took place.
'The victim was returning home after closing his shop Wednesday night, when he noticed his car had a puncture and decided to take a lift from a friend,' Har Sahai Sharma, the investigating officer of the case, told IANS.
Kohli and his friend were walking to the latter's car, parked around 500 metres from his shop, when three youths, who came in a car, stopped them and snatched the three bags containing cash and recharge coupons from Kohli at gunpoint, he added.
Police have not been able to make any breakthrough in the case as due to darkness, Kohli could not see the faces of the three robbers and he and his friend were also unable to note down the registration number of the car properly.
'They have given us three, four numbers and we are still investigating,' Sharma said.
