Say 'No' to mobiles in schools in Kerala
Showing concern regarding the atmosphere in the schools, the Kerala government has issued an order to ban the use of mobile phones in the school premises throughout the state.
Till now, it was only an order by the government that mobile phones should not be used in school, but now the state government will enforce a total ban on the usage of cell phones in all the government-run senior secondary institutions, as said by Mr. Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, Home Minister of Kerala, in the assembly.
The action has been taken past the physical search run over a girl studying class-12th for tracing a mobile phone, following which; the girl attempted suicide by drinking an acid concoction that she stole from a school laboratory.
There is a considerable increase in the cyber crimes in the past recent years among youngsters. The crimes include sending obscene SMS and MMS, clicking photographs without permission, threatening, vulgar and unwanted phone calls.
Kodiyeri Balakrishnan further said that the decision of banning the mobile phones is taken keeping in mind the increasing complaints of the misuse of mobile phones by children.
Mobile phones not only distract the child's mind from studies but also his heath, thus hampering the overall development of the child. Various researches have proved that excessive use of cell phones generate health and sleep disorders in children. It can reduce their hearing ability as well. Children often indulge in non-recommendable activities thus misusing the mobile phones to the extent of calling it a crime.
Jayaraj, the opposition legislator demanded the ban in all the educational institutions including colleges, but the ban is only restricted to schools for now.
