Tue, 01 Jan 2008 ANI

Aurangabad, July 10 (ANI): Police in Aurangabad baton charged a mob after a stampede broke out during the distribution of bank loan forms.

Thousands of unemployed men and women gathered outside the office of Mahatma Phule Finance Corporation which announced that loans between 50,000 rupees to 200,000 rupees would be granted to members of backward communities in the city.

Around 1200 forms were to be distributed on Wednesday.

A huge crowd gathered outside the office to collect the forms.

After waiting for several hours, the irate mob clashed with police and threw stones and footwear on the office building.

"Nobody knows what forms are distributed to which particular community. Nor have they segregated the forms distribution according to the area," said Tukram Ingle, a resident.

The organization stopped the sale of loan forms seeing the aggressive situation, thus only 500 loans forms were sold out of a possible 1200. (ANI)
