Young neighbour rapes minor in Chandigarh

Chandigarh, Jan 11 (IANS) A 16-year-old girl was raped by her neighbour here, a police officer said Sunday.

The girl, who lives with her family in Burail, a suburb in Chandigarh was raped Saturday by a young man Sonu, who lives in the same locality.

'The victim was going for her tuition class when she was stopped by Sonu, who took her to a nearby guesthouse and raped her repeatedly. The rape has been confirmed in the medical examination,' the officer said.

The girl is a student of class 11 in a government school here.

He said Sonu, who is in mid-twenties, also threatened that he would throw acid on the girl's face if she tells anybody about the incident. However, the girl informed her family members, who took her to police.

'Sonu has been arrested and a case has been registered,' the officer added.
