Madhur Bhandarkar to produce 10 telefilms for Sony

Mumbai, Jan 11 (IANS) Bollywood filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar is all set to produce television software for Sony Entertainment.

'But I'm certainly not directing anything on television. Where do I have the time? My next feature film 'Jail' starts at the end of February. And then I'm planning another very big-budget film this year which I'll co-produce.

'People probably presumed I was going to be directing stories for television because some of the 10 stories assigned to us are female-centric,' Madhur said.

The television wing of his firm is being run by two filmmaker-friends Ashok Pundit and Raman Kumar.

Madhur said: 'The television wing of my company, Bhandarkar Entertainment Pvt. Ltd., will be looked after completely by Raman and Ashok. They'll choose the directors to make these telefilms.'

Already on board are Suhail Tarari, Anand Rai and Javed Sayyed.

'And we're looking at several bright new names, directors who don't necessarily regard television as a stepping stone to feature films. I think television today has a life far beyond cinema and we need to treat it as a separate unit. Both Raman and Ashok are experienced hands at Indian television. I don't have to worry.'
