Boy 'sacrificed' in Chhattisgarh

Raipur, Jan 10 (IANS) A nine-year-old boy's beheaded body was found near the Mahanadi river in Chhattisgarh and the father alleged that the boy had been 'sacrificed' to appease a god, the police said Saturday.

The sensational murder of Class III student Hemlal Nishad was reported from Tilda village in Raipur district, some 110 km from here. The body was found Friday night, three days after the boy went missing.

The police have failed to find clues in the case though several villagers were interrogated.

The child's head was found tonsured and his left palm had been chopped off. That convinced his father Suklal Nishad to say that 'someone has sacrificed my son in a temple and dumped the body (near) the Mahanadi'.

Raipur District Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar said: 'I can't confirm that it's a case of human sacrifice. Investigations are on. We are looking at every aspect of the case.'
