Kanchipuram (Tamil Nadu), Jan 10 (IANS) At least 400 people were taken to hospital after an outbreak of cholera in this Tamil Nadu town, officials said Saturday. The authorities, however, said that there were no indications of an epidemic.

Unconfirmed reports said that at least five people had died due to the disease in this town, 60 km west of state capital Chennai.

Collector Santosh K. Misra, however, told IANS that so far only a 75-year-old patient was reported to have died 'apparently due to a cardiac problem'.

The patients have been admitted to government hospitals in Kanchipuram and outskirts of Chennai.

'All medical help is being extended to the patients and there are no indications of an epidemic,' Misra said.
