England's Samit Patel in line for IPL

Europe, Fri, 09 Jan 2009 IANS

London, Jan 9 (IANS) England all-rounder Samit Patel is in line to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with Delhi Daredevils interested in signing him.

Patel, who has been included in England's squad for the One-day series in the West Indies in March, has been registered for next month's IPL auction.

According to Daily Telegraph, Patel would require a release agreement from both the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and Nottinghamshire to play in IPL scheduled to run from April 10, the day after the start of the English season, to May 29.

Patel would have to miss the finale of the IPL as the first ODI of the season against the West Indies is due to start at Headingley May 21, but Nottinghamshire are not expected to raise any objection to him missing the opening weeks of the season.

Hampshire captain Dimitri Mascarenhas, who has also been named in England's one-day squad for the Caribbean, is the only English player to have played in the IPL so far having appeared for the Jaipur franchise in last year's inaugural competition.

But the IPL franchisees will be permitted to recruit ten non-Indians this year, an increase of two, and Essex all-rounder Graham Napier has attracted the interest of the Mumbai Indians.
