Delhi Fashion Week dates clash with India Fashion week again

New Delhi, Jan 9(IANS) The dates of the upcoming edition of the Delhi Fashion Week (DFW) have been announced and they again clash with the India Fashion Week (IFW) schedule.

Organised by the Fashion Foundation of India, DFW will be held March 19-24 whereas Fashion Design Council of India's (FDCI) IFW is scheduled for March 20-24, resulting in a major clash at the grand finale date.

Also, the DFW this time will be a six-day event unlike other fashion weeks that are just five-day affairs.

'DFW is a platform for the most talented designers and we have got an overwhelming response from the fashion fraternity, both within India and abroad. It continues to grow stronger and this season too it will reaffirm its position as the premier fashion event in India,' DFW consultant Sumeet Nair said in a press release here Friday.

While the announcement has come in a time when the fashion world is going through a low-key note due to recession, according to the FDCI president Sunil Sethi, the whole fashion fraternity should show solidarity in a time like this.

'The fact that lot of us are debating on the fact whether we should have one or many fashion weeks but the fact is that in such difficult times when we are not expecting great business, we should consolidate and join hands for better business,' Sethi told IANS.

But Nair dismisses the call for solidarity, quipping did it mean that during such times all newspapers should join hands and only one newspaper should be published.

'As long as two events are held on the same dates, it does not make any difference and there should not be any problem for designers as well as for the buyers,' Nair told IANS.

'If FDCI wants us to join hands with them, why do not they merge with us,' he said.

Nair asserted that the business will not get affected because Indian designers are capable of delivering good products.

'This is the best time to see the best of the designers and if your product is good, then it will definitely generate good business,' he added.
